The meter was free and the strips are very reasonable, but because the meter isn't very accurate, it's throwing money away. I tested just today because I felt low blood sugar, but when I tested with this meter, it showed my blood sugar as 132 but when I used my other two meters (I keep 3 around because of the accuracy problem) and the cheaper of the other two meters gave roughly about the same reading. After I used my one touch ultra mini, I discovered that my blood sugar was extremely low at 53. Don't waste your money on a cheaper machine just to save money. I, like millions of others have no health insurance so I have to pay for everything out of pocket and that means I have to find the most affordable strips and meters I can find. Problem is that when you go cheap you get what you pay for, in this case, a junk meter. It's small and easy to read and use, but it's not useful to maintain correct readings. To the company!
